How Moderation Works
Last updated September 25, 2026
AERA is an adults-only AI companion platform. We use multiple safeguards designed to prevent prohibited content while preserving the privacy of user interactions.
Our moderation approach combines AI-based safety controls, age restrictions, review of characters and scenarios, human review, and ongoing monitoring.
The categories of content that are not permitted on AERA are described in our Prohibited Content Policy.
1. AI Conversation Safeguards
AERA's AI companion system includes safety instructions designed to prevent the generation of content prohibited under our policies.
These restrictions are incorporated into the instructions governing AI conversations. When a conversation involves prohibited content, the AI may refuse the request, stop the relevant interaction, or redirect the conversation.
These safeguards apply to private AI conversations as well as other AI-generated experiences available through AERA.
2. Image Generation Safeguards
AI image generation is subject to separate safety instructions based on AERA's prohibited-content categories.
Requests involving prohibited content may be refused or prevented from generating an image.
Additional safeguards may be applied to generated visual content as our moderation systems evolve.
3. Character Age Controls
AERA is strictly limited to adults aged 18 or older.
Custom character creation includes age restrictions designed to prevent users from creating underage characters for adult or sexual interactions.
Characters participating in sexual or sexually suggestive content must be represented as adults aged 18 or older.
Attempts to circumvent these restrictions through character descriptions, scenarios, age-play, or other framing are prohibited.
4. Character and Scenario Review
Characters submitted for publication are subject to review before or in connection with being made publicly available.
Published characters may be reviewed by a member of the AERA team for compliance with our policies.
Scenarios are also evaluated by a separate AI-based review system designed to identify content that may violate AERA's prohibited-content rules.
Content that does not meet our requirements may be rejected, restricted, modified, or removed.
5. Ongoing Review
Our team periodically reviews generated content and platform activity to identify potential policy violations, emerging risks, and areas where our safety systems can be improved.
Where potentially prohibited content is identified, we may review the relevant content and take appropriate action.
6. Enforcement
Depending on the nature and severity of a violation, AERA may:
- Prevent or stop a generation;
- Reject or restrict a character or scenario;
- Remove or modify content;
- Restrict platform functionality;
- Suspend or terminate access to the Service; or
- Take other appropriate action consistent with our policies and applicable law.
Content involving minors, sexual exploitation, trafficking, non-consensual sexual activity, or other potentially illegal activity is treated with particular priority.
7. Reporting Concerns
If you encounter content or activity that you believe violates AERA's policies, please report it to:
Please provide enough information to allow us to identify and review the relevant content or activity.
Reports involving potential exploitation, trafficking, minors, or other serious safety concerns will be prioritized.
8. Continuous Improvement
AI moderation systems are not perfect, and prohibited content may occasionally evade automated safeguards.
AERA periodically reviews its moderation processes and may update its safety instructions, review systems, prohibited-content definitions, and enforcement procedures as new risks or patterns emerge.
This moderation framework should be read together with AERA's Prohibited Content Policy, Anti-Trafficking & Exploitation Policy, Complaints Policy, and Terms of Service.
